Harry Findley, Jr, PhD

As we celebrate CURE Childhood Cancer’s 50th anniversary, it is especially fitting to honor Dr. Harry Findley with the Ragab Spirit of Hope Award. This award, given in memory of CURE’s founder, Dr. Abdel Ragab, recognizes individuals who embody Dr. Ragab’s qualities of dedication, compassion, perseverance, and innovation in the fight against childhood cancer.

Dr. Findley began his career at Emory University’s Department of Pediatrics just months after Dr. Ragab arrived in Atlanta. Working side by side, the two pursued groundbreaking research at a time when survival for children with leukemia was tragically rare. Dr. Findley was among the first to discover that acute lymphoblastic leukemia – the most common childhood cancer – is not a single disease, but three distinct subtypes requiring different treatments. This discovery revolutionized the way leukemia is treated and paved the way for the targeted therapies that continue saving children today.

CURE proudly supported Dr. Findley’s research throughout his career, and in turn, he has given generously back to the organization. He has reviewed research proposals and progress reports, attended countless events, supported CURE financially, and always offered his time and wisdom whenever needed. His legacy is not only the science that has saved countless young lives, but also the humble spirit of service that has defined his career.

On this milestone anniversary, honoring Dr. Findley feels like coming full circle. From those earliest days alongside Dr. Ragab to the advances in saving children today, he has embodied the spirit of hope that drives CURE’s mission forward.
